TTSA Annual Conference & Business Exhibition, 25th May 2017
Riviera International Conference Centre, Torquay
Torbay Teaching School Alliance hosts Annual Conference & Business Exhibition, focusing on ‘Raising Aspirations for Disadvantaged Pupils’ across Torbay & Devon.
In late May, Senior Leaders from schools across Torbay and Devon descended on the Riviera International Conference Centre for a day of ‘Inspiration & Aspiration'. Nationally recognised Keynote speakers addressed the issues of costal deprivation, inspiring disadvantaged pupils and raising aspirations across Torbay and Devon.
Dr Jenny Blunden, CEO at Truro and Penwith Academy Trust opened the conference with an overview of the extensive work carried out by the Teaching School Alliances across the South West of England. Torbay Teaching School Alliance has six areas of focus: School to School Support, Initial Teacher Education, Leadership & Planning, Specialist Leaders in Education, Research & Development and Continued Professional Development. Throughout the course of the day, delegates heard from a variety of Keynote speakers, including Jack Russell, Founder and Director of PDC Inspiration; Adam Matthews, Headteacher, Bournville Primary School, Weston Super Mare and Keith Clover, National Leader of Governance.
Senior Leaders also attended a variety of workshops in the afternoon before finishing with moving video footage from pupils in receipt of pupil premium funding. Pupils were able to explicitly identify and explain the positive impact that pupil premium funding has
had on broadening otherwise unreachable experiences both in and out of the school environment. Pupils also explained the positive impact on their academic progress which ultimately will lead to greater opportunities as they progress in to further education and adult life. This session was led by Jane Inett, Head of th
e Virtual School, Torbay. Feedback from the conference was extremely positive with Headteachers taking away valuable tried and tested strategies to implement within their own school environments.
Next year’s conference & business exhibition will take place on Thursday 24th May 2018 at the Riviera International Conference Centre, Torquay. If you are a Senior Leader in a primary or secondary school, save the date and more information will follow in the Autumn term!
“Excellent day, well planned and focused on audience priorities"
