Debra Searle inspires TTSA delegates with the ‘go-to’ attitude that enabled her to sail the Atlantic single handed
Senior Leaders and Headteachers from across the South West welcomed Debra Searle, MVO & MBE to open the third TTSA Annual Leadership conference at Oldway Primary School, Devon. Debra Searle, a formidable lady to say the least, grew up in and around the shores of Devon and was therefore delighted to impart her knowledge and experiences on home territory!
Since sailing the Atlantic, Debra has been very busy! She has completed expeditions all around the world, won medals at World Championship level for Great Britain, has had entrepreneurial success with the launch of five companies, is a published author, has presented over 40 programmes for the BBC, and was awarded an MVO and an MBE from The Queen. Many delegates probably didn’t recognise her for any of these accomplishments as Debra Searle is better known for a headline that was on the front page of every national newspaper “HUSBAND ABANDONS WIFE MID ATLANTIC”!
Debra delivered a fantastic Keynote sharing her harrowing experiences alone at sea after taking the decision to carry on with her journey despite her husband being forced to quit for medical reasons. She shared with us the practical ways we can stop relying on willpower and start putting in daily habits that allow us to make major changes in our business and personal lives. She truly understands how it feels to be faced with overwhelming obstacles and that willpower and mental determination hugely outweigh physical ability.
When Debra talked about how to achieve against the odds and the need to shift your comfort zone to achieve greater goals, she spoke with total authority from personal experience.
